ARTISTS
Part
of what made the wedding planning so much fun has been
the opportunity to collaborate with friends and family on
all of the projects and particulars that will make it special. This list is not in any particular order.
Spike Gjerde: Spke was the chef for friday night's BBQ, and he did a bang up job- and then rushed back to Baltimore where he is starting a new restaurant, Woodberry Kitchen. Check it out if you are in the area.
Cynthia
Treen: Cynthia made my dress for my special
day. It has been so much fun visiting her studio for fittings
and
planning sessions. I decided Cynthia would be making my dress
long before I knew I was getting married- ever since the
good old days hanging out in Cloth in Providence,
where Cynthia had a studio in the back of Diane Horton's
shop.
Mark Allen: Mark made Peter look awfully sharp. His shop in Providence is always fun to visit, and he designs and sells wonderful men's clothing.
Alice Bean Knits: Dawn knit the doily-esque table
coverings from real-deal Tamworth Farm yarn, spun by Hope
Spinnery in Maine. She also made a lovely scarf for me to wear at the reception.
Dave Allyn: We commisioned Dave Allyn at the Steelyard in Providence to make the porcelain cups everyone got to take home. They are beautiful.
Friederike Hamann and Field: Friederike did all of the drawings
that we
used throughout the graphics, including the line art at
the bottom of the page here. She and her boyfriend Colin Sullivan-Stevens collaborate on art projects, wall murals, and run the artspace Field in Portland. Together they did the fun photo booth.
Sarah Meyer: Sarah Meyer is my pal and Best Lady. She designed and printed our Marraige Certificate which
everyone signed on our wedding day. We are looking forward to having this
souvenir framed on our wall for many many years to come.
Martha
Sullivan/Folia Jewelry: Martha Sullivan designed
and fabricated my oh-so-fabulous engagement ring and wedding band. It
always cheers me up to
see it. Folia Jewelry
on Exchange Street in Portland represents Martha, and is where
Peter and I found her and commissioned the piece.
Max and the Blue Hill Wine Shop: The Blue Hill Wine Shop is an amazing resource for the area. Not only did they provide a killer variety of wines and beer for the parties, but Max plays a mean cello. He and Gerald Wheeler played at our ceremony, and really made it special.
Dan's Flower Farm: Dan grew all of the flowers we used for Saturday's decorations at his farm in Sedgewick. He and his wife also did the arrangements at Kniesel Hall and the bouquet.
Thirty Acre Farm: If you were at the BBQ on Friday, you probably noticed that the pork was AMAZING! Part of the responsibiltiy for that of course lies with Spike and Fred, who prepared the food- but it helps when the pig just starts out really really tasty. Thirty Acre Farm raises some tasty pig near Augusta in Maine.
Sumner Farm: The chicken was another BBQ highlight- and most of what we ate that night was from our good friends at Sumner Farm in Sumner Maine. They raise the best chickens in town.
Appleton Creamery and K. Horton Cheese Shop: We had a lot of cheese on hand at our wedding. That was thanks in part to K. Horton in Portland, an absolutely amazing cheese and specialty foods shop. Appleton Creamery in Appleton ME, made a lot of the cheese on hand as well- several of the hard cheeses, as well as the chevre and feta.
Homegrown Herb and Tea: Only the best tea ever! Hopefully you got a sip of her amazing iced tea on Saturday, or one of her delectable hot teas. Stop by her shop the next time you are in Portland.
Cast Iron Catering and the Wescott Forge: Mickey was the chef for the events on Satuday and Sunday, and did an incredible job. He knew we wanted to use local foods as much as possible, and did a great job finding local farms for the meat and vegetables for Saturday night, inlcuding Ackerley Farm and Four Season Farm. It was his very first wedding, so congrads!
Greg Rec: Greg was the official photographer of the event, and seemed to be just about everywhere all at once. We can't wait to see the shots he took- and we have very high expectations! He is an associate photographer with Nadra Edgerley Photography in Portland, and is also a staff photographer at the Portland Press Herald.
Kniesel Hall: We were so glad to be able to have our ceremony at Kneisel Hall- it is a beautiful space and has such history. It is a focal point of the summer cultural scene on the Blue Hill Penninsula. If you have a chance, you should check out a chamber music concert there the next time you are in the area.
Blue Northern: Everyone was blown away by the music on Saturday. These guys are masterful musicians play amazing bluegrass music.
Jon Call and the Foundation: Jon and his band drove up from Portland on short notice to play for us on Friday. The mix of reggae, folk and rock really hit the perfect note!
